A State-by-State Look at Job Growth

Posted by: Mark Marich on April 15, 2009 Source: Policy Dialogue on Entrepreneurship

A new study by Moody's, an economic consulting firm, is getting some attention on USAToday.com. While the 2009 forecast for the US shows a drop of 3.3%, it projects gains for 2010-2012 across all job sectors--even the sluggish manufacturing industry.

In the meantime, what does 2009 hold for individual states? Everyone loses.

In terms of total jobs, Washington DC tops the list with only a 0.8% drop--largely insulated from the recession thanks to the large number of government jobs. Not surprisingly, Michigan--home of the battered auto industry--takes the biggest hit at -5.8%.
