ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP SERIES
You’ve got a head full of ideas when it comes to creating a web app, but where do you start? In this weekend workshop, you’ll learn HTML, Rails, and git basics that will get you moving the right direction in your app development process. By the end of the weekend, you’ll be able to make an account on Github and deploy your app to Heroku.
How to start and run a Rails web application
How to deploy to Heroku
Where to find resources to help move you along
Design and implement functional web applications using Rails
Drive web applications using database solutions

PREREQS & PREPARATION
Text editor, such as Sublime Text
Ruby 1.9 and Rails 3.2.11 installed
Ideally, understand how to navigate to a folder using the command line
Students should be knowledge and comfortable in the general ways the World Wide Web works
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR(S)
Toby Matejovsky is a software developer with wide-ranging experience. His projects include a real-time bidding advertising platform that handles 80,000 requests per second with single-digit millisecond latency (Scala), consumer-facing social network-related web applications (Ruby), and air defense/command-and-control systems (C++). He is a language enthusiast and winner of several hackathons.
