hackMIT a bus is going from Michigan

10/4/2013 8:00 PM - 10/6/2013 1:00 PM

Who can attend?

All undergraduate students from any university in any country are welcome. High school students must be 18 or older to attend. This event is closed to graduate students. (Shouldn't you be working on your thesis anyway?)

You must register to participate. Don't forget to bring your valid student ID!

How much does this event cost? Do I have to pay for admission, food, travel, or lodgings?

Admission is free, and includes food and drink for the duration of the hackathon. We will reimburse each attendee up to $200 for travel. This does not cover hotel costs.

I'm not too close to MIT. Can I get reimbursed for travel?

All attendees can claim up to a $200 travel reimbursement for buses, trains, and economy/coach flights. There will be a travel reimbursement booth at the hackathon. Just make sure to bring a receipt, ticket, and government-issued photo ID.

What's the format of the hackathon?

Anything goes! Web, desktop, mobile, and hardware projects are all welcome. (All hacks should be computer-related, though.) Projects will be judged based on creativity, technical difficulty, polish, and usefulness.

How big should teams be? Can I do it alone?

Teams should be at most 4 people total. You can do it alone, but it'll be less fun! We'll have a site up to help find teams before the event, and you'll have time at the start to meet others.

Are we allowed to build on past projects? Other code?

We strongly discourage building off of existing projects you've worked on. To be fair to others, let us know if you are using some of your old code in your hacks. Using third-party APIs and libraries is definitely okay, as long as they're accessible by everyone else as well.

What should I bring?

All attendees are required to bring their valid student ID for admission (name must match Eventbrite registration) and a laptop for hacking. If you want to do a hardware hack, don't forget to bring the devices you plan on working with.

What should I not bring?

Firearms, knives, and weapons of any kind are banned. If you can't bring it on an airplane, don't bring it here!

I have a question that's not listed here. Who should I ask?
