What is translational medicine?

on June 09, 2014

As part of the Kauffman-sponsored Energizing Health Collaboration Series, we've turned over eMed to Guest Editor Matt Keener, the chief architect for the Pittsburgh leg of the collaboration conference and a translational clinical neuroscientist. Here's Matt's latest contribution in his role as eMed Guest Editor.

What is translational medicine?

Translational medicine is a field that focuses on "translating" medical research into health tools and solutions for patients. These "bench to bedside" interventions got their start in the lab before ending up in patients' hands.

Healthcare entrepreneurs can find opportunities in translational medicine by helping to commercialize research that began at a university or other institution.
